John Calipari Story on T-Mac
February 2, 2015
“When I was with the Nets we brought in Tracy McGrady whom we were thinking about drafting, for 2 workouts. I’m not kidding when I say he didn’t make more than about 5 shots! He was one of the worst shooters I had ever seen. We brought him back for a 2nd time because we couldn’t believe how many he missed. The 2nd workout was the exact same as the 1st. We could not believe it. So I decided to pass on him. Five years later I am watching him on TV and he’s knocking shots down from everywhere. If he was open, boom he hit it. This is what happens if you dedicate yourself! The point is, you can improve individual skill if you’re willing to spend hours and hours working on your game! It’s almost guaranteed! And until a player improves, he can compensate with his athleticism and devotion to facets of the game like defense, rebounding, and playmaking.” – John Calipari
